Why U.S. Energy Policy Is a Fiasco With diesel prices over $4 a gallon and gasoline prices approaching $4 a gallon, you would think that politicians would get serious about developing a rational energy policy. However, the Republicans are beholden to the oil companies, and the Democrats appear only interested in getting votes and looking for short-term fixes. Projecting School-Age Enrollment: Use of the Cohort Survival Technique Rapid growth in school age populations as a result of the maturation of the baby-boomer generation has had far-reaching effects on school budgets, curriculum decisions, space issues, and school construction plans. In Massachusetts, school age enrollment has increased markedly in many communities in the last decade, prompting a flurry of new school construction proposals as well as decisions relating to services for children with special needs and children who are learning English as a second language. Display Your Windows Application Results in Excel Using C# Developers of software applications focus their efforts on how the end-user client will ultimately use the results produced. What is vitally important for clients is how the results are displayed, especially those clients that primarily focus their efforts and resources in using Excel or other spreadsheet applications. We have successfully developed a means to use the functionality of ADO .NET and display the results in Excel workbooks, providing our clients with a powerful application and the familiar use of spreadsheets. Modeling Exploration, Development and Production in the Gulf of MexicoWhen MMS prepares an environmental impact statement (EIS) or similar document, projection of future oil and gas exploration, development, and production (EDP) activity is an important and integral step in forecasting environmental and socioeconomic impacts. Also, activity projections for alternative lease sale schedules play a key role in the preparation of the 5-Year Oil and Gas Leasing Program. This research resulted in a new model that improves the existing method of projecting the EDP activity that starts the chain of impacts following lease sales or other MMS actions. Policy analysis is an additional use of the model. Variations in projected EDP activity and resources discovered result from changes in various policy measures such as royalty suspension volumes. This model incorporates various policy levers to assess such impacts. PDF Impact of Tax Expenditure Programs on Small BusinessesThe U.S. Internal Revenue Code contains numerous tax and tax credit provisions affecting the operation and after-tax profitability of large and small businesses. The implementation of these policies and the way in which the effects are distributed between large and small firms has not yet been well investigated. This study for the U.S. Small Business Administration examines the effects of various tax expenditure programs that would allow large and small firms the opportunity to reduce their tax liability. PDF Evaluating Miami-Dade County Educational Facility Impact FeesImpact fees have been employed by local governments around the country as a way to ensure that new developments pay for a portion of the public services and infrastructure that will be necessitated by their existence. In the case of education impact fees, a municipality is concerned with whether new residential developments, with new students, will trigger the need for new school facilities, and if so, how will the developer partner with the local government to provide this infrastructure.
